Zelda Reorchestrated →
Six years ago, an eager 14 year old had the idea of remaking all of the songs from the hit video game series “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” to sound like they were being played by live musicians. He took his idea, and three demo songs to a few web forums and a few music professionals. The feedback was clear: the idea was original, but quite a daunting task.

King's Quest 1: Quest for the Crown remade with... →
I was never a fan of the original series but the amount of love and effort these guys have put into this remake is worthy of note. The narration is really good and reminds me of the way a father tells a story to his children. The graphics certainly won’t make you think next generation but you have to applaud the effort of so much hand rendered imagery.

'Poltergeist' Star Zelda Rubinstein Taken Off Life... →
According to RadarOnline, 76-year-old Zelda Rubinstein has only a short time left to live after being taken off life support at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. It seems she has been in the hospital for over a month, and has now been taken off life support after the failure of two major organs. Their source, said to be a friend of the actress, says: “Her lungs and kidneys have failed...

Author Neil Gaiman contributed a story to Tor called “I, Cthulu, Or, What’s A Tentacle-Faced Thing Like Me Doing In A Sunken City Like This (Latitude 47° 9′ S, Longitude 126°43′ W).”  As usual, Mr. Gaiman’s humor is fantastic and fun.  (This little gem is from 1986.)

One of my new year’s resolutions is to shoot at least one photo a day to publish on my photoblog. I always start these things and then quickly fall off the project never to return. Hopefully this year I will find the resolve to stick with it.

Doctorow, How to Destroy the Book | Electronic... →
At the Canadian EFF conference, Cory Doctorow gave a speech on the erosion of the value of books. His words were inspiring and puts a spotlight on how the marketing people and private interests are trying to kill the notion that a book is something to be owned, traded, resold… whatever you want as it’s your property. With the trend of DRM in eBooks, the field is changing into one where you...

The Unfinished Swan →
I saw a demo for this game earlier this year on Offworld. I’ve been wondering what it was all about… The Unfinished Swan is a game where the world is entirely white and you have to paint in the details to be able to see. Really hard to explain, check it out, it’s something entirely new. The Unfinished Swan is a first-person painting game set in an entirely white world....

Kim Peek passed on this week, so sad to see him go. If you’ve even seen a documentary about him then you know the world lost a truly beautiful person. He was 58 years old: “I wasn’t supposed to make it past about 14, and yet here I am at 54, a celebrity!”

Ghostbusters: The Video Game review
I just finished Ghostbusters: The Video Game and the best way I can describe it is lackluster. The game is very pretty, the graphics are surprisingly good on some stages, but that fails to cover the boring game play, thankfully it’s only about 3-4 hours so you won’t be bored for very long. You play “The Rookie”, a Ghostbuster in training while accompanying the original cast...

Daft Punk tomorrow
Tomorrow’s shoot involves filling most of the floor space in my den with an audience of paper models and building a stage for Daft Punk. Tim and Eric is a re-shoot; we lost the soft light from my window before I really got started and then the battery died. My only complaint about my Pentax K10 is that the battery indicator doesn’t give enough warning that it’s about to expire....
